Hell, no!
Or… What the hell, what has happened now? How can it be that the world lurches from one crisis to another while we stand by with our eyes wide open? What role does art play in a troubled society? Will things quieten without culture? Does art offer a solution or simply add to the problems? Can it build bridges, does it deepen rifts or does it do neither? Is art relevant? Is it crisis-proof? An artistic action can stop time and shut out the world. It offers a moment of resistance to the stresses around us. The artspring Art Festival comes at a time of year when the days get longer and the skies brighter. And as we move between heaven and hell, we gaze sometimes into the light, and sometimes into the dark.
The annual Berlin artspring festival takes place from 05. May until 04. June 2023.
As part of this festival, Galerie Arnarson & Sehmer will be exhibiting three exciting artists – their works themed around HELL.
The opening of this exhibition will take place on 18. May 2023, 7 pm.
Featured artists:
Lucie van der Elst
From a very young age Lucie van der Elst has been drawing rocks, mysterious floating beings swimming in the moonlight, moss, holes, moths, and ghosts.
For Berlin artspring she will present a series of drawings of various sizes with an emphasis on ignition, melting, and fusion: in praise of movement and the transmission of light in times of darkness and uncertainty.

Erik Mittasch
Erik Mittasch trained as a porcelain painter at the Meissen porcelain manufactory. This is visible in his works: Mittasch’s miniatures and porcelain works of art surprise with their richness of detail and precision. The illustrations are reminiscent of the florilegia of Maria Sibylla Merian. With wit and a twinkle in his eye, he serves us serious and provocative topics on plates, bowls and vases – and sometimes delicate treats.
Nana ____ aka weirdfullmind
Nana ____ is a multidisciplinary artist, also known as “weirdfullmind”. Her works visualize the tensions that lie between intervention, uncertainty, and spiritual growth. Nana ____ transforms the human experience into accessible figures that invite the viewer to personal intervention and discovery. Her creative process is strongly influenced by her spiritual encounters and is expressed in both material artworks and artistic exchanges and encounters.
