Artist Ólafur Örn Arnarson worked on a very special series of photographs within the project “Fabelhafte Wartenburg” in Wartenburg/Elbe, Saxony-Anhalt. The project aimed to explore the history and potential of the rural town, which was once a centre of trade and culture in the region.
During his visits in preparation for the collaborative exhibition, that took place in July 2023, Mr. Arnarson created 13 works inspired by the spaces of the abandoned school building, where the gym has been transformed into a cultural space called Kultur Kiosk. Initiated by Árni Thórlákur, the Kultur Kiosk is a place where local artists and activists come together, to revitalise the old building and offer a platform for creative expression and social interaction.
This first site-specific Moment Serie chapter is now on display in Galerie Arnarson & Sehmer, a producers gallery in the heart of Berliner quarter Weißensee.
The Moment Serie is a collection of photographic works that capture the essence and atmosphere of different locations, using natural light and minimal editing. Mr. Arnarson’s works reflect his fascination with the contrast between decay and renewal, as well as his appreciation for the beauty and mystery of the abandoned school. The exhibition invites the viewers to immerse themselves in the unique stories and emotions that each moment evokes.
The opening of the exhibition is November 16th at 7 PM.
